coin necklace, coin jewelry
My dad's hobby from the time he was a young man was collecting old coins and over the years he amassed quite a collection of coins from many nations. One of the more unusual coins in his collection was a 1934 coin he picked up while in Germany during World War II and made into a coin necklace. He, like many American soldiers who fought in the European Theater of this global conflict, collected souvenirs as something to do and because they wanted them as something to show their families and friends when they returned home. Dad had this unusual coin made into a coin necklace because it was the first year the Nazi regime assumed power in Germany and it was adorned with the Germany eagle and other fancy writing on both sides and the edge. I always thought it was kind of freaky to even collect a Nazi coin and then make it into a coin necklace and I told dad this one day. He explained it was meant as a show of the contempt the Allied soldiers, especially the American soldiers, had for the Nazi regime. It ticked off the German soldiers when they would see their money made into coin jewelry and the American soldiers did it for this reason.
